East Cape-Los Barriles

East Cape-Los Barriles has to be one of my favorite vacation destinations. In little over a 2 hr plane ride from LAX, (fares very reasonable) , you can depart from reality and end up worlds away from what you define in your life which is stressful.

While Mexico is said to have it trials with the drug wars and may feel unsafe, East Cape is far removed from the cross fire and truly remains a hidden gem.  While everyone else is running off to the much more famous "Cabo San Lucas ", in a 45 minute drive for the San Jose airport, you can find yourself in paradise. I had visited Cabo several times before I happened upon East Cape. I couldn't have been more thrilled to find such lovely little towns, friendly people and the true taste of Mexico far away from the tourist traps. East Cape is calm, peaceful and has much to offer in the way of fun, fun fun!

Los Barrlies , in East Cape is a fishing mecca known to be the best fishing in Baja with Roosters up to 50lbs., Tuna-200lbs., Pargo-60lbs.,Wahoo-100 lbs., Dorado-50 lbs., Striped Marlin-Blue Marlin, Cabrilla, Amber jack, Cravelli, Trigger fish & Squid.

You can fish for Marlin year round with Black Marlin at 200 to 1000 lbs and Pacific Sailfish reaching up to 100.

Villas De Cortez sports a grand , fully equipped fleet, has a nice large pool, outside cabana restaurant that's beach front and comfortable rooms.

In addition to the " 5 star " fishing, the water is a crystal clear, aqua blue and has some great snorkeling in calm waters all up and down it's coastline...too many to name! For activities other than fishing, many of the homes are beach front, have pools and come with kayaks. My favorite part of the trip were our ATV excursions. When driving down the main street which leads to most of the rentals homes, you can find a few companies that will drop them off at your house for the entire week at a discounted rate. You can take " all day " trips , ( such as the one to the " Giggeling Marlin ", or take some short half day treks to the waterfalls.................. very refreshing!

There's a family run restaurant  just outside of town on the main highway called, "Calafia". I had a lot of Margueritas in my life and I must say, these are the best! Just a warning....be careful!!!!!  After just one, if you drink too fast, you may not be able to get up from your table let alone find the bathroom!

I'm not much for hotels these days and would rather stay in a house. The homes are affordable come beachfront with great pools and A/C in every price range and are easy to rent with daily maid service. For $80 you can hire a nice lady to come in and present an authentic meal for 8. It's a real bargain and no clean up....well worth the price.

These are my two favorite pics for home rentals;

Casa De Amigos

Best Home in east Cape

In addition, here is a website filled with many vacation rentals of all types and price ranges

Make sure you rent something beachfront with pool and A/C and you won't be disappointed!
